Alternate armament

Some of us live in places and situations where supplies of firearms are either limited, illegal, or both. I'd be interested in hearing what others in this situation are doing to prepare for their defense. My personal armoury ranges from the medieval to the exotic. Several bows, recurve and compound supply my 'reach out and hurt someone' capacity. The compounds are capable of a pass through at 50 yards, and quiet enough to let you get off a second shot if you need it. Close in requirements come from a well practiced staff, several long blades, and some heavily modified (and probably illegal) air supplied projectile launchers. I take solace in the fact that few others around me are any better supplied, and most of them like me.

CRacking up AD!!!........

But on a serious note I would also see about getting SLINGSHOTS....a really high quality one with strong torque those things can be deadly. if you use something like nuts or bolts as the projectile.

Also ballistic knives could be REALLY NASTY and brass knuckles for close quaters combat

I also wear a belt every day. Makes a great improvised weapon on the quick...

It depends on how primitive you wish to be. Legend has it that the cave man did quite well with a large club. He may have also employed it as a tool for gathering his mate, versatility should always be consideration.

I've heard of the belt thing, but if I tried it.....Man, I thought we'd get into Tasers PDQ on this one. The newest offerings look good for what they are. Marketed to women, wink wink. Apparently the majority of purchasers are men. Not yet regulated in many places.

No lie. I went to a party once where a band was playing at this house about 18 years ago. The neighboor came over for a while and was nice. About 3 hours later when the room the band was in was packed like sardines, he comes in drunk with an axe and starts hacking up the drum set. You should have seen about 150 people all trying to fit through 1 sliding glass door at the same time.

People went in the neighbors house after he ran away, dragged him out, and beat him to an inch of his life in his own driveway. Cops came everyone scatterd. Helicopters and everything.

I have many Shuriken, knives, a few swords, Kamas, Kasari-Fundo, and a few other primitive weapons that I used to practice with years ago...

I have them pack away in Totes for now... I have thought about breaking them out to start practicing again.

That is not a butcher knife!!
A meat clever has always been one of my favorite weapons.

Their is one with in a few feet from me at all times in the home. You could not see one if you were standing next to me, but its there:-)

I lived with one so thick that I believed it would stop most or all handgun ammo or I could deflect it. I would sleep next to that baby.

I also like diving knives. I have slept with those before also.

I'm not that brainy when it comes to electronics. But they have these real nice lasers that are hand held but kind of pricey. I bet a smart person could alter one of these to be very dangerous. They are very dangerous already. Just one shot:-(

I would love to have a really dangerous hand held laser that would fire multiple Bursts. Less than a thousand bucks.

I'm sure that it can be done right now by a smart person.

I haven't shot it much, it might be good for rodent control. More of a novelty than a formidable weapon. I'd be lucky to get 1 foot groups at 50 feet.

I go with an automatic baton. Cut the handguards off, makes for a fairly compact package and very impressive when you take the safety off, hit the button and it extends to full length.

Used to at least be used by Korean cops. Very effective too.

big dogs

I'm partial to German Shepherds, but there are plenty of other breeds that make great guard dogs. Functions as both defense, offense & alarm, rolled up into a cute, furry, loyal package. Acts independently even when you're not around to use your weapons.

Surprizeing what you can do very quickly with a shovel. I prefer a sharpened #1 round point, not the heavier common #2. My weapon of choice to fit into a "weapon-less" society.

Re: Alternate armament

Going with the auto theme...collapsible car antennas also make good improvised weapons. Use the kind with the barrel at the top, not the little ball (easier to grasp and extend in a hurry). If a mugger comes at you, extend it and wave it as fast as possible in a figure eight motion instead of using like a whip.

Every hit yourself in the hand with a metal coat hanger? Really hurt, huh?

Actually, I went to the annual hunting and fishing show .. and quite a lot of what was for sale wasn't legal at all in quebec. That telescoping steel baton for example, is illegal here, as were the brass knuckles. But then, the tire iron I carry beside my car seat is illegal. I've been warned about not only that, but my tool belt with it's large-ish screwdrivers and drywall saw hanging within arm's reach.

check your state as to legality of how long of a blade you can carry without them thinking you are an axe murderer.

Also application of force should be proportionate in some states where there is no castle doctrine. Or if you are outside of your house. Some states have a "duty to retreat"

Inventors claim to turn 300 microwaves into megawatt energy weapon

That is, according to two New Mexican inventors, who recently filed a patent for a "high-power microwave system employing a phase-locked array of inexpensive commercial magnetrons." Translated into English that basically means that these guys claim you can combine the magnetrons (the bits that generate the actual microwave that cooks your popcorn) from a bunch of consumer-grade microwaves and tweak 'em a bit to develop a megawatt-level death ray, or in military/legal parlance, a "directed energy weapon system." Yeah, we've seen energy weapons (or tools, if you prefer) before, but this is probably one of the first times that we've seen ordinary kitchen technology more complicated than a knife turn into a seriously lethal weapon.

spooky, I was thinking just a couple of days ago that this must be possible somehow... maybe my tin foil hat is transmitting again. Did they publish their plans? I didn't see anything on the link.

Round here they have 2 x yearly rubbish chuckouts where everyone throws their crap on the street verge and then everyone rumages through other peoples crap for 2 weeks until the council picks it all up.

lots of microwaves and other deadly weapons for free... I wonder what you can do with a washing machine

Beaucoup years ago as a kid, I went to summer camp in Canada. On of the items I purchased at the camp store was a Pevey (sp?) cruising ax with a leather cover for the blade. I put an edge on that ax that I could shave with. I also became quite proficient in throwing it to a distance of about 25'. The ax was lost several moves ago, but I always figured it would be a great weapon to throw at a MZB coming uninvited through my front door... you know... "Hey, buddy! Catch!" "Thunk!"
